Holy Spirit and Immersion? What does Immersed in the Holy Spirit Mean?

August 15th, 2018

John said of Jesus, "I have baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit." (Mark 1:8. So does John. Matthew and Luke add and with fire.) If baptize means to immerse, then what does it mean to be immersed/submerged/dunked in the Holy Spirit? Why is this mandatory for Jesus to do to each believer/follower of His? Is there a difference between the Baptism IN the Holy Spirit and the Baptism OF the Holy Spirit? Take a listen as Jay, the Truth Barista and Amazing Larry talk about this amazing truth!

Holy Spirit and the Kingdom of God

August 3rd, 2018

What is the mark of God's kingdom? Wherever God the King's reign is acknowledged and His will is done. Sadly, humanity threw off the yoke of God's rule in the Garden of Eden, moved into the kingdom of death and darkness, and sought to establish our own kingdoms based on following our own wills. BUT, God wants us to come back to Him. First, He opened the door to reenter His kingdom, "He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son He loves. We have redemption, the forgiveness of sins, in Him." (Colossians 1:13-14). Then through the Holy Spirit who comes to live in us, He reestablishes His rule and reign. How do we live in God's kingdom? Take a listen!

Holy Spirit and Salvation

July 31st, 2018

How did God the Father create the universe? Through His Son, Jesus, by the power of His Spirit: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were created through Him, and apart from Him not one thing was created that has been created." (John 1:1-3) and "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness covered the surface of the watery depths, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters." (Genesis 1:1-2) How does God recreate people who are dead in sin and separated from their Creator? The same way - through Jesus by the power of the Spirit! Join the Truth Barista and Amazing Larry as they start a new series on the Holy Spirit during their Friday Bible Study at the Ersatz Coffee Shop!

God Rewards Desperate Faith, part 2 - The Gentile Woman.

March 9th, 2018

"Sorry, I wasn't sent to help dogs." You know, we don't really expect words like that to come out of Jesus' mouth...but they did. Here's the quote. "It isn’t right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs." (Matthew 15:26) Now if you stop there in the text, it sounds horrible. Okay, even if you read the whole text including Jesus agreeing to help the woman, it sounds terrible. BUT if you learn the context and take the language and God's plan into account, this is a profound story of mercy and compassion, one that should encourage us to reach out with a desperate faith that God rewards!

God Rewards Desperate Faith, part 1 - The Bleeding Woman.

March 2nd, 2018

Yes, Jesus loves and responds to people who trust Him. But the Bible also shows that Jesus' most powerful miracles came to those who desperately reached out to Him, even if it meant violating "decorum" or "politeness" or any other religious way of seeking Him. Take a listen to this episode, especially if you're at a place of desperation! A woman who has been bleeding for TWELVE YEARS took an enormous risk and reached out to touch Jesus' garment, trusting that she would get healed. The how and why are FASCINATING, but the fact that Jesus responded to her desperate situation takes it to a whole other level! Don't give up hope. Be desperate in your pursuit of God!

God’s Answer to the Welfare State - YOU!

July 7th, 2017

On the heels of last's week's episode about God's miraculous provision, the Truth Barista discusses God's main way of providing for people - YOU! You are God's main way to meet the needs of those around you. In truth, the needy are all around us and we can't shut our eyes and ignore them. Neither can we personally meet every need. But God can...and He often chooses to do so through His people. If God's people would ramp up their level of caring more and put feet to their faith more, the problem of need could be significantly reduced. Why? Because we live on the level of the world's needs and we have a God above who supplies us to help others. Take a listen!

Holy Indignation - Righteous Anger!

March 3rd, 2017

Yes, there is a time for anger! And there's a right time and a right way to "rearrange the furniture" ala Jesus. Fasten your seat belts and take a listen!

Harnessed to God - The “Yoke of His Teaching”

February 7th, 2017

Every Friday after the morning rush, Jay the Truth Barista and Amazing Larry the Kitchen Guy have their Bible study at the Ersatz Coffee Shop. But today, Larry is really stumped by what Jesus says in Matthew 11:25-30! Many Christians know these words, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." However, they don't understand exactly what Jesus is saying...and it will challenge your socks off!

God LOVES A Righteous Nag!

February 4th, 2017

"Nag! Nag! Nag! Nag! Nag!! That's all I hear!" So say some wives and husbands, right? Or is it a boss that's rippin' on you? Or a family member? Or a teacher? Or *gasp* a PASTOR? Yup. We've all heard it. We've all done it. Like it? Probably not. But did you know God loves when someone nags him? "Why Truth Barista, that's a ridiculous thing to claim!" Oh really? This didn't come from me, but from Jesus HIMSELF! Read Luke 18:1-8 and listen to the podcast. It just might change your lackluster prayer life into a prayer life that would make a NUDNIK proud!
